So, what do we write?
Just about anything.
Thorough research is our Toast and cool content is our Jam!
You may have seen one of us at your local eatery — or wherever it is that you happen to hang out — notifying the kid behind the counter that the sign on the door is missing a comma.
Yeah, that's the act of pure and unwavering passion for... grammar.
(Okay, maybe we lost you on that last word, but the fact remains, we love and strive to preserve the English language.)
Below, are the elements that we consider when electing to write a particular piece; however, do note that not all of the elements may be applicable to your project.
Let's start with the obvious — the subject!
We enjoy exploring new subject matters, which most certainly has served as the impetus for writing pieces that range from environmental conservation to heliskiing.
With a few exceptions, there is no subject that we will not delve into.
It is just plain silly to write any piece when the author does not thoroughly understand the subject matter.
Luckily, we love research.
Whether the writing requires the distillation of a complex set of ideas or highlights the nuances of a product line, we strive to ensure that the content is accurate and includes citations, if necessary.
The most important factor to consider when crafting an article is the target audience. It should come as no surprise that readers are more likely to engage in content when it matches their overall demeanor.
Reading level, culture, and tone (e.g., friendly, authoritative, humorous, etc.) are a few of the factors to consider.
How the writing will be delivered informs much of the process.
Will the words be spoken, or will they appear in print?
Will they be accompanied by visuals, or will they have to inform the reader with text alone?
Time limits apply to speeches.
Most people have seen that awkward moment when the music begins to play, even though the actor is only half-way through her/his speech.
This type of writing requires knowledge of the individual's natural speaking pace, pauses, accompanying demonstrations, etc.
It is important that a client has a reasonable word-count in mind, as it is a critical factor when writing any piece.
How you deliver information is highly dependent on how many words it has to be carried out in.
A product's label would certainly have to be more succinct than the same product's description on a website.
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a term that is used to describe a strategy that websites use to improve or maintain their ranking with the search engines.
They key to SEO-friendly writing is to create content that is both appealing to the humans and the robots.
And then there was that one!
It is rare to encounter a writing anomaly. With this having been mentioned, we truly enjoy odd and challenging projects.
